Raising-Rabbits has partnered with a group of small farmers and rabbit producers all over the United States. No big industrial farms are involved. These are individual rabbit producers who raise rabbits because they are passionate about farming and about caring for their rabbits. 

Raising-Rabbits enables you to get fresh, farm-raised rabbit shipped to you directly from the farm. 

Rabbits are raised like YOU would raise them, with loving care, and without hormones or antibiotics.

Package Sizes

Fresh frozen rabbits for your dogs, cats, snakes, and other exotic pets are shipped carefully:

• Each rabbit is separately wrapped in clear packaging, with the weight of the contents marked in pounds and ounces (for example: 3# 5 oz)
  
• Ground rabbit, venison, and venison/rabbit blend is wrapped in 2-3 pound units (no worries about having to chisel a serving off a solid block for your small dogs or cats, or waste!)
• Product weights listed below are product weights, not product plus packaging.
• Rabbits and venison are processed for pet consumption

You can order cases in 3 different sizes:

• 20 Pound (available seasonally, never shipped to Florida, sorry.)
• 30 Pound
• 50 Pound

Listed Prices are Totals (the Bottom Line Cost)

Prices listed are totals*, which include price per pound, shipping, handling, packaging, your final price. *Shipments to HI or AK may require an additional surcharge. Contact us to find out how much.

Holiday shipping: We do not ship during weeks with federal holidays due to increased shipping fees. However, if you do need your order shipped on a week with a federal holiday, that service is available for a $10 surcharge. It is in our store under the frozen products section, along with Extra Insulation.

Note: Your raw rabbit package may arrive completely frozen. Or, in some cases, depending on shipping or weather conditions, it may arrive partially or mostly thawed, still containing ice crystals, or cold, indicating very recent thawing. Recent thawing or partial thawing does not necessarily indicate a faulty shipment or spoilage.

Handling:  Upon receipt, refreeze the packages. Refreezing is believed to rupture bacterial cells (should any have started to grow), killing them and preserving the quality of the meat. See feeding instructions below.

Insurance: Raising-Rabbits offers insurance on all orders! <-- This page has all the FAQs, including instructions and screenshots! Anything you order from Raising-Rabbits can be covered by insurance. Normal UPS and FedEx insurance doesn't cover frozen items, so we found a company that does. Their rates are very affordable, just 3% of your order (minimum $1.50). If anything happens to your order during shipping, the claim process is fast, simple, and easy. Just file your claim within 14 days of receipt of your order. It takes only about 15 minutes, and they process claims quickly. This option will be available with every order when you check out.

Processing and Shipping Time

Lead Times: When orders are received, 20-30 pound orders have a 3 week lead time, 50 pound orders have a 4 week lead time. Boneless meat orders will have an additional week lead time. While we are often able to fill orders much sooner, we cannot guarantee it. The supplier does not always have the product ready to ship; sometimes it first needs to be harvested and processed, which can take a few days. Once the product has been processed, it needs to freeze for several days so it will be frozen solid when we ship it to you. We also ship out orders only on Mondays and Tuesdays to avoid the product getting delayed in shipper warehouses over the weekend where it may thaw. These procedures are all necessary to ensure that your order gets to you in good quality. 

UPS and FedEx transit time is 2-3 days: Experience indicates that the special packaging will maintain the order partly to completely frozen for at least this long. If for some reason it appears not to be possible to ship within this time frame, we will contact you about this.

Holiday shipping: We do not ship during weeks with federal holidays due to increased shipping fees. However, if you do need your order shipped on a week with a federal holiday, that service is available for a $10 surcharge. If it is imperative that your box arrive solidly frozen, we advise that you choose a 1-day air option at a significantly higher shipping expense. Please ask about this option.

Whole Prey Intact Rabbit

You’ll receive the full purchased weight or more, in pounds, of completely intact rabbits, including fur and all organs and entrails. For example, if you purchase 30 pounds of whole prey intact rabbit, you'll receive at least 30 pounds of rabbit, not counting the packaging and insulation.

Rabbits are packed individually. Rabbits generally weigh 3-5 pounds, but could range between 2 to 8 pounds.

Skinned and Gutted Rabbits with Organs

You’ll receive the full purchased weight or more, in pounds, of rabbits that have been skinned and gutted. For example, if you purchase 30 pounds of skinned and gutted rabbits, you'll receive at least 30 pounds of rabbit, not counting the packaging and insulation.

Some organs are left in place inside the rabbits: liver, kidneys, lungs and heart. Heads, feet, fur, and entrails are removed. Average weight of the carcass, once processed, is 2 to 4 pounds. Rabbits come packaged individually and we write the actual weight of each rabbit on the outside of each package.

For convenience of serving, especially to smaller pets, we also have SKINNED, GUTTED, AND QUARTERED (SGQ). Cutting meat is time and labor intensive, especially going through bone. You’ll receive the full purchased weight or more, in pounds, of boneless rabbit chunks which includes ONLY the rabbit meat. No bones, organs, or any other part of the rabbit are included.

For example, if you purchase 30 pounds of boneless rabbit chunks, you'll receive at least 30 pounds of boneless rabbit chunks, not counting the packaging and insulation.

The boneless chunk rabbit is packed in two-pound packages. For example, for a 30-pound order, you'll receive 15 packages.

Instructions for Feeding Frozen Raw Rabbit

• Keep frozen until ready to use
• Thaw in refrigerator (or offer while still frozen)
• Refrigerate any leftovers promptly. 

ATTENTION: Feeding cats a raw rabbit diet exclusively, especially if ground, may result in a taurine deficiency. Researchers recommend that you supplement their diets with 375 – 500 mg of Taurine per day. See this link at catsndogsnaturally.com.
(Dogs synthesize taurine efficiently, and thus won’t experience a taurine deficiency on a raw diet.) 

Why a 20 Pound Minimum for Frozen Raw Rabbit, and more FAQ's

• 20 pounds provides enough mass to remain frozen for shipping during the cooler seasons. For this reason we only ship 20-pound orders between the months of October through May, and even then, weather may dictate when we should start or stop shipping the smaller orders. Additionally, because of the consistently hot weather year round, our policy is to not ship 20-pound orders to Florida. (20 pound orders are currently unavailable.)
  
  
• 30 and 50 pound quantities enable you to get the most raw rabbit for the lowest possible shipping charges.
  
  
• Consider ordering 50 pounds per order during hot weather (around or above 90 degrees Fahrenheit), as the larger frozen mass of raw rabbit tends to extend the ability to ship to your area during the hotter weather.
  
  
• We are now using double insulation, which improves our ability to ship around the lower 48 states, and to overcome shipping conditions out of our control.
