Training Treats

Training Treats are all natural chew toys for your dogs, cats, and other pets. They are frozen and all natural; no preservatives, hormones, or other chemicals.

Raising-Rabbits has partnered with a group of small farmers and rabbit producers all over the United States. These are individual rabbit producers who raise their rabbits the way YOU would raise them, with loving care and without hormones or antibiotics, because they are passionate about farming and about caring for their rabbits.

No big industrial producers are involved. Raising-Rabbits enables you to get fresh, hand-raised rabbit products shipped to you directly from the farm.

What are Training Treats?

Training Treats are a special category of rabbit products. These are special items, good for chew toys, feeding snakes and exotic lizards, or adding a superfood supplement to your pet's diet.

$$$ Is It Worth It? $$$

The brief answer to the above question is absolutely YES, especially when comparing the cost of multiple expensive vet visits and processed "healthy" commercial feed and treats, to the price of truly nutritional food. Feeding species-appropriate, high quality food to one's pets helps minimize the health problems that result in vet visits, AND diminishes the need for prescribed medications.

"Thank you so much! You have been by far the easiest and most reliable place to get rabbit from. With a 130 lb bull mastiff with more problems than we even know or understand he also appreciates it since rabbit is one of only 4 foods he tolerates...." (Kerry in MA)

A Variety of Specialty Training Treats

We have several products available for your pet that will nourish good physical and mental health. Our products are all natural, shipped frozen instead of chemically preserved, and give your pet the satisfying experience of hunting prey, relieving stress, and avoiding behavior issues.

  • Rabbit Ears
  • Rabbit Front Paws
  • Rabbit Back Paws

Our rabbit products are NOT denatured!

Denaturing is the addition of chemicals that do not add to the nutritional value or preservation of the meat. Our meat and training treats do not have any dyes, preservatives, hormones, antibiotics or other additives.

To preserve freshness and guard against spoiling, our products are frozen, not chemically preserved.

Extra Protections: Insulation and Insurance

Insulation: Maybe you will want extra insulation and gel packs to keep your orders super cool, especially during summer. We have that upgrade available for only $18 per case. Check it out here: Extra Insulation and Gel Packs

Insurance: Raising-Rabbits offers shipping insurance on all orders. <-- This page has all the FAQs, including instructions and screenshots. Anything you order from Raising-Rabbits can be covered by insurance. Normal UPS/FedEx insurance doesn't cover frozen items, so we found a company that does. Their rates are very affordable, just 3% of your order (minimum $1.50). If anything happens to your order during shipping, the claim process is fast, simple, and easy. Just file your claim within 30 days of receipt of your order. It takes only about 15 minutes, and they process claims quickly. This option will be available with every order when you check out.

Processing and Shipping Time

Lead Times: When Raising-Rabbits receives your order, we expect 20-30 pound orders to have a 3-week lead time, and 50-pound orders to have a 4-week lead time. While we are very often able to fill orders much sooner, we cannot guarantee it. The supplier does not always have the product ready to ship; sometimes it first needs to be harvested and processed, which can take a few days. Once the product has been processed, it needs to freeze for several days so it will be frozen solid when we ship it out to you. We also ship out orders only on Mondays and Tuesdays to avoid the product getting delayed in shipper warehouses over the weekend where it may thaw. These procedures are all necessary to ensure that your order arrives in excellent quality.

UPS/FedEx transit time is 2-3 days: Experience indicates that the special packaging will maintain the order partially to completely frozen for at least this long. If for some reason it appears not to be possible to ship within this time frame, we will contact you.

Holiday shipping: We do not ship during weeks with federal holidays due to increased shipping fees or unavailability of service. However, if you do need your order shipped on a week with a federal holiday, please contact us and we will inquire whether it will be possible.

How Your Raw Rabbit Order Will Arrive

(A hearty Thank You to satisfied customer Ed, in Ohio, for sharing photos!)

You'll receive your rabbit product in individually sealed packages, in plastic bags, surrounded by ample insulation.

Note: Your box of raw frozen rabbit may arrive completely frozen. In some cases, depending on shipping or weather conditions, it may arrive partially or mostly thawed, still containing ice crystals, or still very cold, indicating very recent thawing. Recent thawing or partial thawing does not necessarily indicate a faulty shipment or spoilage.

Handling:  When your box arrives, refreeze the packages right away, including any that are partially thawed or cold. Refreezing is believed to rupture bacterial cells (should any have started to grow), killing them and preserving the quality of the meat. See feeding instructions below.

Instructions for Feeding Frozen Raw Rabbit

  • Keep frozen until ready to use
  • Thaw in refrigerator (or offer while still frozen)
  • Refrigerate any leftovers promptly.

ATTENTION: Feeding cats a raw rabbit diet exclusively, especially if ground, may result in a taurine deficiency. Researchers recommend that you supplement their diets with 375 – 500 mg of Taurine per day. See this link at catsndogsnaturally.com(Dogs synthesize taurine efficiently, and thus won’t experience a taurine deficiency on a raw diet.)

FAQs About our Products and Services

Why is there a 20 pound minimum order?

20 pounds provides enough mass to remain frozen for shipping during the cooler seasons. For this reason we only ship 20-pound orders between the months of October through May, and even then, weather may dictate when we should start or stop shipping the smaller orders. Additionally, because of the consistently hot weather year round, our policy is to not ship 20-pound orders to Florida. (We are working to make 20 pound orders available year round. Stay tuned.)

I'm very interested in feeding a raw diet to my dog (cat), but they have been on nothing but kibble until now. How can I get my pet to eat the raw meat?

You are not the only pet owner to ask this question... Learn how to transition your pet to a raw diet.

Is there any advantage to buying larger orders?

30 and 50 pound quantities enable you to get the most raw rabbit for the lowest possible shipping charges. Consider ordering 50 pounds per order during hot weather (around or above 90 degrees Fahrenheit), as the larger frozen mass of raw rabbit tends to extend the ability to ship to your area during the hotter weather.

What kind of packaging does my order come in to keep it cold?

We use double insulation and frozen gel packs, which improves our ability to ship around the lower 48 states, and to overcome shipping conditions that are out of our control.

Can I get a small sample to see if my pet will like it?

We are currently working on that! Stay tuned.

Benefits of All Natural Chew Toys for Dogs (and Cats!)

You may be slightly squeamish at the sight of raw chunks of fuzzy rabbit parts, but your pets will absolutely love it. Humans have created multi-billion dollar industries to turn our food into post-modern art saturated with dyes and other chemicals, so we have the assumption that our beloved pets share this desire. Not so much...

Natural is Best

Our pets are created to live, survive, and thrive in the wild, which includes their nutritional and psychological needs. These treats are like the prey their ancestors (and modern feral cousins) hunt in the wild. You've seen your dog go wild chasing squirrels, or had your cat proudly gift you something that they just killed. This instinct is absolutely in their blood, and thousands of years of domestication haven't changed that one bit. Our couch companions are still hunters at heart.

Lots of chew toy companies add artificial scents and flavors, plus dyes to make the products more appealing. You know from your own food, artificial never is as good as the real thing. Additionally, dogs and cats don't see color like humans, so the dyes are just additional chemicals to appeal to pet parents with credit cards.

Have you ever spent a chunk of money on a toy or treat, just for your pet to ignore it? That's because they crave the sensory experience of natural items: taste, scent, and texture.

The treats are preserved by being frozen, instead of chemically saturated or dried. We know chemical preservatives are bad for people, so naturally they are bad for pets too. Dried rawhide treats sometimes tend to splinter, causing abdominal obstructions. Cheap, dried rawhide toys get really expensive when you have to take your pet to the vet.

Dry kibble food is loaded with carbohydrates, which dogs and cats are NOT created to eat. This is why pet obesity, diabetes, allergies, and auto-immune disorders have become epidemic. Our beloved furry companions are suffering from kibble-caused malnutrition and food poisoning.

Other chew treats are carbohydrate based. Dogs and cats cannot handle starch and sugars like humans. Dogs are omnivores, but are heavily carnivorous. That means their diet should be mostly meat, with some greens, and only a slight amount of carbs. Cats are obligate carnivores, designed to get all their energy calories from proteins and animal fats, not carbs. This is why feline obesity and diabetes have become so prevalent, because commercial cat foods contain starch and sugars. Whole grains are good for pet parents, not pets.

Pet animals still retain many of their natural instincts. This is why purse princess dogs and couch potato cats get excited when they see prey animals. They absolutely love fresh, natural, unprocessed meat. Their favorite toys are reminiscent of hunting, and our chew toys and training treats give them that satisfying taste of fresh prey.

Many websites will have "safe and chew proof" treats and toys. How many times have you seen such an item totally destroyed 20 minutes later, with pieces of it missing that you hope aren't in your pets stomach? Dog and cat fangs and claws are specifically designed to tear through fur, feathers and bone. By giving your pet a chew toy that is like what they would hunt and eat naturally, ingested tasty bits are just a little bit of natural nutrition.

Some hard toys and rawhide chew treats can actually damage your pets teeth, especially if they are older or already have dental damage. Our chew treats are all natural, sturdy enough to stand up to pet play, but supple and pliant to preserve their teeth.

These natural chew toys also help with cleaning teeth, scrubbing small debris, plaque, and tartar.

Enrichment

These treats also provide enrichment for your pet by stimulating their senses and fulfilling their psychological needs. Cats and dogs need to hunt and play, culminating in the "kill" of their prey or toy. Bored pets can be destructive to themselves, other pets, people, and their homes. Depending on the pet, the undesired behaviors can involve aggression, bullying, stealing items, over grooming, over eating, or redecorating the house in an apocalypse motif. Do you have leather shoes that your dog will find no matter where you hide them? That's because the smell, texture, and taste reach out to his soul. Our rabbit chew treats and training toys will give the same fulfillment, saving your Italian designer suede.

Some cats suffer from a condition called PICA, which is characterized by chewing non-edible items, risking significant harm. This can include power cords, yarn, clothing, and even rocks. Pica can sometimes be cured through diet modification or medication, but not always. If your cat's pica isn't curable, it can be safely managed through natural chew toys.

Kittens and puppies also have a strong desire to chew as they learn to hunt. They are infamous for chewing everything to first cut their baby teeth, then to later shed baby teeth and cut adult teeth. Positive reinforcement training is a thing, so get these treats for your fur babies at the start, to avoid developing undesirable behavior later.

Additionally, fun and enticing toys will also keep them occupied so you can actually get stuff done around the house. Many work-from-home employees have found themselves excessively micromanaged by their pets, far worse than annoying bosses. Some pet owners have even had to resort to buying their cat or dog a computer to save their career.

$$$ Is it Worth it? $$$ (continued)

Absolutely. The savings in vet bills, replacement shoes, and furniture repair quickly offset the cost of these treats. Buying in bulk gives even more savings, from $3 per treat to less than $1. Compare the pricing in our STORE.

Dogs Bonnie and Clyde are eagerly looking forward to their raw rabbit meals.

Pictured: Dogs Bonnie and Clyde are eagerly looking forward to meals of raw rabbit. Sarah M., owner of Bonnie and Clyde, said, "Bonnie immediately took her half rabbit and ate it all. Clyde took his and carried it around for a long while and when he thought no one was looking, buried it. And then dug it up and reburied it in another location. Four times. It was so precious...."

With our frozen rabbit chew toys and training treats, your pet gets the stimulation they need while toxins and unwanted carbs are eliminated. Healthy species-appropriate snacks and chewies quite often deliver almost immediate benefits. You might be surprised at the healthy changes in pets that occur simply through such a simple change.

As the source of the health problems is addressed, symptoms diminish. Better health means an improvement in your pet's quality of life, along with fewer vet visits, which is much kinder to your wallet.

Our furry companions give us so much; in return, delicious healthy food and treats are far better gifts than pet obesity in a 50 pound bag of cheap kibble. Quality food and toys absolutely pay off in the long run.
