Why Ground Rabbit?

Ground rabbit, and other ground meat is a great option for pet owners looking for convenience and portion control.

$$$ Is It Worth It? $$$

The brief answer to the above question is absolutely YES, especially when comparing the cost of multiple expensive vet visits and processed "healthy" commercial feed, to the price of truly nutritional food. Feeding species-appropriate, high quality food to one's pets helps minimize the health problems that result in vet visits, AND diminishes the need for prescribed medications.

"Thank you so much! You have been by far the easiest and most reliable place to get rabbit from. With a 130 lb bull mastiff with more problems than we even know or understand he also appreciates it since rabbit is one of only 4 foods he tolerates...." (Kerry in MA)

Our rabbit meat products are NOT denatured!

Package and Case Sizes:

Fresh frozen rabbits for your dogs, cats, snakes, and other exotic pets are shipped carefully, and sold in sizes that minimize shipping costs and optimize value.

  • Ground and boneless ground rabbit are in 2-3 pound packages, with weight marked on each package. The small packages are so you can thaw exactly what you need with no waste.

  • Product weights listed are product weights, not product plus packaging.

  • Case sizes: 50 pounds (the weight of the product), 30 pounds, and 20 pounds (available seasonally).

You’ll receive the full purchased weight, or more, in pounds, of ground or boneless rabbit. Ground rabbit includes meat, head, bones, and skeleton for all those great super-food nutrients. Boneless ground rabbit is meat only, ideal for pets with sensitive stomachs. For example, if you purchase 30 pounds of ground  rabbit, you'll receive at least 30 pounds of rabbit, not counting the packaging and insulation.

  • Rabbits are processed for pet consumption only.

Extra Protections: Insulation and Insurance

Insulation: Maybe you will want extra insulation and gel packs to keep your orders super cool, especially during summer. We have that upgrade available for only $18 per case. Check it out here: Extra Insulation and Gel Packs

Insurance: Raising-Rabbits offers shipping insurance on all orders. <-- This page has all the FAQs, including instructions and screenshots. Anything you order from Raising-Rabbits can be covered by insurance. Normal UPS/FedEx insurance doesn't cover frozen items, so we found a company that does. Their rates are very affordable, just 3% of your order (minimum $1.50). If anything happens to your order during shipping, the claim process is fast, simple, and easy. Just file your claim within 30 days of receipt of your order. It takes only about 15 minutes, and they process claims quickly. This option will be available with every order when you check out.

Processing and Shipping Time

Lead Times: When Raising-Rabbits receives your order, we expect 20-30 pound orders to have a 3-week lead time, and 50-pound orders to have a 4-week lead time. While we are very often able to fill orders much sooner, we cannot guarantee it. The supplier does not always have the product ready to ship; sometimes it first needs to be harvested and processed, which can take a few days. Once the product has been processed, it needs to freeze for several days so it will be frozen solid when we ship it out to you. We also ship out orders only on Mondays and Tuesdays to avoid the product getting delayed in shipper warehouses over the weekend where it may thaw. These procedures are all necessary to ensure that your order arrives in excellent quality.

UPS/FedEx transit time is 2-3 days: Experience indicates that the special packaging will maintain the order partially to completely frozen for at least this long. If for some reason it appears not to be possible to ship within this time frame, we will contact you.

Holiday shipping: We do not ship during weeks with federal holidays due to increased shipping fees or unavailability of service. However, if you do need your order shipped on a week with a federal holiday, please contact us and we will inquire whether it will be possible.

How Your Raw Rabbit Order Will Arrive

(A hearty Thank You to satisfied customer Ed, in Ohio, for sharing photos!)

You'll receive your rabbit product in individually sealed packages, in plastic bags, surrounded by ample insulation.

Note: Your box of raw frozen rabbit may arrive completely frozen. In some cases, depending on shipping or weather conditions, it may arrive partially or mostly thawed, still containing ice crystals, or still very cold, indicating very recent thawing. Recent thawing or partial thawing does not necessarily indicate a faulty shipment or spoilage.

Handling:  When your box arrives, refreeze the packages right away, including any that are partially thawed or cold. Refreezing is believed to rupture bacterial cells (should any have started to grow), killing them and preserving the quality of the meat. See feeding instructions below.

Instructions for Feeding Frozen Raw Rabbit

  • Keep frozen until ready to use
  • Thaw in refrigerator (or offer while still frozen)
  • Refrigerate any leftovers promptly.

ATTENTION: Feeding cats a raw rabbit diet exclusively, especially if ground, may result in a taurine deficiency. Researchers recommend that you supplement their diets with 375 – 500 mg of Taurine per day. See this link at catsndogsnaturally.com(Dogs synthesize taurine efficiently, and thus won’t experience a taurine deficiency on a raw diet.)

FAQs About our Products and Services

Why is there a 20 pound minimum order?

20 pounds provides enough mass to remain frozen for shipping during the cooler seasons. For this reason we only ship 20-pound orders between the months of October through May, and even then, weather may dictate when we should start or stop shipping the smaller orders. Additionally, because of the consistently hot weather year round, our policy is to not ship 20-pound orders to Florida. (We are working to make 20 pound orders available year round. Stay tuned.)

I'm very interested in feeding a raw diet to my dog (cat), but they have been on nothing but kibble until now. How can I get my pet to eat the raw meat?

You are not the only pet owner to ask this question... Learn how to transition your pet to a raw diet.

Is there any advantage to buying larger orders?

30 and 50 pound quantities enable you to get the most raw rabbit for the lowest possible shipping charges. Consider ordering 50 pounds per order during hot weather (around or above 90 degrees Fahrenheit), as the larger frozen mass of raw rabbit tends to extend the ability to ship to your area during the hotter weather.

What kind of packaging does my order come in to keep it cold?

We use double insulation and frozen gel packs, which improves our ability to ship around the lower 48 states, and to overcome shipping conditions that are out of our control.

Can I get a small sample to see if my pet will like it?

We are currently working on that! Stay tuned.

Moses and Zacchaeus love and thrive on raw rabbit...

Why Ground Rabbit? (continued)

You may be slightly squeamish at the sight of raw ground rabbit resting in a pet dish, waiting to be consumed, but your pets will absolutely love it. Humans have created multi-billion dollar industries to turn our food into post-modern art, so we have the assumption that our beloved pets share this desire. Not so much...

Raw is Natural

Our pets are created to live, survive, and thrive in the wild, which includes their nutritional needs. Fortunately, ground rabbit satisfies both their picky palettes and their nutritional needs.

Ground rabbit means the whole rabbit, which is just about every potential nutrient your pet needs. Naturally there is protein from meat, but there are also vital nutrients found in bones, organs, ligaments, tendons, and the brain. Dogs and cats are designed to get their energy calories from animal fats, not grains and sugars like humans can.

For pets with sensitive stomachs as a chronic condition, or perhaps as a new or temporary malady, boneless ground rabbit is ideal. It is just finely ground rabbit meat, easy to digest.

Dry kibble food is loaded with carbohydrates, which dogs and cats are NOT created to eat. This is why pet obesity, diabetes, allergies, and auto-immune disorders have become epidemic. Our beloved furry companions are suffering from kibble-caused malnutrition and food poisoning.

Fortunately, ground rabbit is a great way to restore Fido and Fluffy's health, with everything God intended for them to eat. The ground rabbit comes in 2 or 3 pound packages, so you can thaw just what you need with no waste.

Pet animals still retain many of their natural instincts. This is why purse princess dogs and couch potato cats get excited when they see prey animals. Their favorite toys are reminiscent of hunting.

Real meat isn't just nutritious, but flavorful and satisfying. Our pets dislike processed factory food even more than we do. Factory processing and denaturing also strips nutrients out of food, leading to overeating because of cravings for nutrients. The overeating causes a wide variety of issues, from obesity to irritable bowl syndrome and in-the-shoe vomiting.

Easy Portion Control

The best part of ground rabbit is PORTION CONTROL. Do you have a chonkster that needs to lose weight? Many commercial "weight control" pet foods strip out the healthy animal fats which are essential for pet health, but then contain beans, rice, and grains, the carbs that pack pounds onto their furry frames.

Speaking of chewing, ground rabbit also helps maintain good dental health. Dog and cat teeth are designed to chew and bite bone. Kibble manufacturers have convinced the general public that grain based cookies are necessary for pet dental health, and that bones will result in immediate death due to choking. If this were true, wild canines and felines, who consistently dine on the bones of their prey, would be extinct.

In truth, raw bones do not splinter, and are safe and healthy for pets. The bones included in the grind are in small enough fragments to help clean teeth while eating while being digested safely.

Dog and cat teeth are designed not just for chewing meat, but also ripping and tearing tendons and ligaments, and cracking bones to get to the marrow. Bone marrow is an absolute superfood for pets; it can even help relieve arthritis pain in dogs prone to hip problems.

Boneless Ground?

For pets with sensitive stomachs or missing teeth, boneless ground is ideal. It has the excellent flavor and nutrition that will put a healthy spring in their step.

$$$ Is it Worth it? $$$ (continued)

In defiance of common sense, "high quality canned 'medicinal' pet food" is mostly whole grains, NOT the proteins and fats that your pet is literally starving for. So now they are getting the same unhealthful carbohydrates that they shouldn't have been getting in the first place, with some extra synthetic added vitamins that still don't provide adequate nutrition. Additionally, they may not even be getting the dubious dental benefit from crunching dry kibble. It's no surprise that pets on these "healthy" diets see marginal improvement at best. You still have the vet bills, but now more expensive food bills as well.

Dogs Bonnie and Clyde are eagerly looking forward to their raw rabbit meals.

Pictured: Dogs Bonnie and Clyde are eagerly looking forward to meals of raw rabbit. Sarah M., owner of Bonnie and Clyde, said, "Bonnie immediately took her half rabbit and ate it all. Clyde took his and carried it around for a long while and when he thought no one was looking, buried it. And then dug it up and reburied it in another location. Four times. It was so precious...."

With ground and boneless ground rabbit, your pet gets the nutrition they need while toxins and unwanted carbs are eliminated. Healthy species-appropriate food quite often delivers almost immediate benefits. You might be surprised at the healthy changes in pets that occur simply through a change in diet.

As the source of the health problems is addressed, symptoms diminish. Better health means an improvement in your pet's quality of life, along with fewer vet visits, which is much kinder to your wallet.

Our furry companions give us so much; in return, delicious healthy food is a far better gift than pet obesity in a 50 pound bag of cheap kibble. Quality food absolutely pays off in the long run.
