Some help please

My rabbits are a mini rex and I think a polish. Can they have lops because I think they are absolutely adorable. Also my mini rex had its 2nd litter that has 4 babies, they are 11 days ago and 3 have their eyes open almost all the way open but a solid brown does not have its eyes open hardly at all.

What do I do he seems a little bit smaller though but not a whole lot. Also my mom says I shouldn't touch them, can I? Note I'm only 11 and why does my mini rex always be so moody (its a she.)

Hey, Holly, thanks for asking. Lopped ears are genetic. Both mini rex and Polish rabbits have ears that stand up straight, so all their babies will too. If you want a rabbit with lopped ears, you'll need to get yourself a lop eared rabbit.

Remember - lop ears are genetic, so if you breed the minirex to a lop eared rabbit, you might get bunnies with helicopter ears that stick out sideways but not exactly up or down. If you like lop ears, get two lop eared rabbits to breed, if indeed you intend to do some breeding with them.

With apologies to your mom, you can indeed be touching your bunnies, very carefully, of course. Though it would be best to wait to play with them till they are around 3 weeks old.

Hopefully by now the little guy with the shut eyes now has them open. But if not, then perhaps he has a touch of nestbox eye (an infection). If so, he'll need a bit of Terramycin opthalmic ointment in each eye. You can get it over the counter at a feed store, usually, or order it from our website.

Your minirex is cranky because she is a doe, I think. Does tend to have more moody days than the bucks, just because they are rabbits.

Enjoy your rabbits!
