The True Story of a March Hare

by Thomas Silva
(Modesto, Ca U.S.A)

This my story of how I got my ‘March Hare’ Rabbit, and how she got her name -- Black Velvet. I went to Tracy, Ca, for the Fourth of July to my step-parents house for dinner and a swim. That afternoon, as we sat and visited with everyone, we checked out their 3-month-old bunny rabbits. The first one was a spotted boy which was not available, so I put the male rabbit away.

The sibling was a female rabbit named Rex. Because I got to keep her, I gave her a new name. As I was holding her it dawned on me that her very black fur was really like velveteen, so I named her Black Velvet.

She was my Fourth of July bunny rabbit but I did find out also that she was born on March 1, 2007. That made her a march hare.
