Rabbit placenta question

How do you know if the rabbit has taken out its placenta or is it okay for her to still have it in her?

***Karen Sez***
Good question. The placenta is part of the after-birth, and is normally flushed out with the same muscular contractions that push out the baby bunny.

It is not okay if the placenta stays in the rabbit, because that would likely cause a life-threatening infection. But, 99% of the time, all is well. Just so you know, the doe usually eats the placenta, and even if the rabbit has 10 babies, you never see a single placenta, most of the time. Eating it helps the doe to make the hormones that bring in the milk for the babies. Just sayin' so you won't be tooo grossed out! :-)
