Rabbit Mom with Singleton

by Leanne

Hi, my rabbit has always had up to 7 babies at least. This time she has only had 1 - is this normal?

***Moderator Comment***
Hi Leanne, a litter of one singleton does happen, now and again. It's not 'abnormal,' at least, but probably not desirable! (Ensure that the little guy doesn't chill and then die.)

There are so many factors that go into the process of gestation that it is very difficult to know the exact reason why your doe only had 1 baby. Here are some factors to consider:
--Fertility and age of sire
--Fertility and age of dam
--Number of breedings and willingness of dam
--Did the dam pee after breeding
--Quality of nutrition
--Time of year
--Temperature
--Consistency and quality of water supply
--And, probably more factors

Perhaps next time around your doe will give you 7+ again.

Good luck and God bless you,
Karen
