My Poor Bunnies

by Eliza

My babies

My babies

I once had a rex rabbit named Toffe she was a castor. She was the best and nicest rabbit I've ever had, when she was ready to mate I chose my best male, Davo to mate with her - a broken with ginger and white. She gave birth to a litter of 3, one castor like her Lucky, one black one Talua, and one castor with a spotty neck and belly Mazumba. They were absolutely beautiful.

At that time Toffe was in a cage with a run that I put on the end so she could eat some grass. At 2 weeks old the kits were just coming out of the nest so I left the run there so they could have a bit of a nibble too.

But one by one, the bunnies got out of the run, and were killed by our 4 dogs. This was because Ellie the dog was able to push the run a little, and so the babies could squeeze out.

After that I tied the run to Toffe's cage with wire. Then she had her second litter of 7 bunnies.

But then Toffe dug out when the new litter was 2 weeks old, and of course the dogs killed her. So I had to bottle feed all the kits. They all survived accept one. I sold all of them to happy homes.
