Is fur in rabbit nest enough?

by Kerri
(Manistee, MI)

My Dutch bunny gave birth to a bunch of kits (not exactly sure how many) a little less than a week ago. Surprisingly they seem to all still be alive and she seems to be taking good care of them for them being her first batch. I noticed she has been adding fur to the nest, but today it seems like they are coming uncovered. Should I be concerned or is this normal?

How exciting for you! Do feel free to pull out the nest, count the kits and make sure there's nothing rotting and stinking in there.

No worries about the kits and the cold, not just yet, since it's only September. The kits will squirm to the bottom of the pile if they want to get warmer.

Have fun with the bunnies,
K
