Welfare vs Rights

How To Harvest a Rabbit Humanely

The reason we harvest a rabbit is to be able to eat lean, nutritious lappin (rabbit meat).

We also harvest rabbits in order to feed our cats and dogs. See our Raw Homemade Pet Food page for more information. Rabbits are a perfect prey animal for cats and dogs.

We also raise rabbits in our backyard as part of our survival preparedness plan. The goal is to always have live rabbits available in case of disasters or food shortages in one’s town or country.Rabbits hanging in butcher shop alongside pig

No pet rabbits have ever been killed for food at our barn. We don’t advocate wanton killing, just the humane use of healthy meat rabbits for food purposes. We harvest rabbits for dinner.

Ours are meat rabbits - their intended end is for meat purposes, and, sometimes, for fur. In the meantime, we treat our animals with respect, and ensure their end is painless. When we harvest a rabbit, they are killed with gratitude.

You never have to wonder what disease the rabbit died from. With excellent rabbit farming practices, we rarely have sick animals. When we do, we cull and discard them. (Animal welfare should never be influenced by a thirst for profit.) The animals we butcher are healthy animals, both for humans and for our pets.

Why did we call this page
Harvest a Rabbit?

We named this page ‘Harvest a Rabbit’ because we thought that animal rights folks actually cared about how animals were treated, and would be interested to learn that farmers could harvest a rabbit humanely and painlessly.

Wow, were we shocked to learn a thing or two over the last couple years!

  • Animal rights organizations don’t give a rip about animal welfare!! PETA, HSUS, and any organizations like them are interested in only ONE THING - the complete cessation of all ownership of animals whatsoever, across the entire globe.

  • In bed with PETA and HSUS is ALF - the Animal Liberation Front. They’re terrorists. They torch stuff like livestock transport trucks and processing facilities, and steal animals from large commercial operations and kids' backyards - whatever they can get their hands on. This kind of behavior is illegal, and should result in prison time.

  • But, organizations like HSUS HIRE these thugs to work for them at a leadership level.

  • PETA could care less about animal welfare. They kill 92% of all the animals they ‘rescue.’ In their words, better dead than in human hands. Why should I talk about ‘harvest a rabbit’ when PETA is a pet killer?

  • It doesn’t matter how spotless I keep my barn or how sterile the water crocks are. My "crime" is raising the rabbits in the first place.

  • It doesn't matter to these people that efficient human digestion requires animal protein. They don't care that humanity has been eating meat since time immemorial.

  • It doesn't matter to these brainwashed individuals that humans have ONE stomach and cows have FOUR. They STILL say we're meant to eat grass like cows, because their 'religion' demands it. You'd be amazed at how difficult it is for a hard-core vegan to stay healthy. There is NO WAY to get certain B-vitamins without ingesting animal protein or cups-full of garden dirt. You cannot logically tell me THIS is the way humans are supposed to function! No, this is blind faith.

  • Shrouded in secrecy are the individuals that are pulling the animal rights strings. The Animal Rights Agenda is so patently false, so destructive to both human health and the environment, that I now have to believe that someone somewhere is orchestrating the agenda. What would be the hidden agenda behind the animal rights movement? To finally prohibit individuals from raising their own meat animals in order to gain complete control over humanity. (See United Nations Agenda 21)

  • Corrupt lawmakers put their electability before the good of humanity when they buckle to the threatening voices of PETA, HSUS and ALF. Wake up, people. It's not about cruelty, it's about veganism, and control of humanity. Plain and simple.

  • The main, hard core animal rights organizations do not intend to stop advocating for ‘animal rights’ until the last animal in human possession has been killed, spayed or neutered.

  • Yep - the spay and neuter thing is ONLY about the prevention of reproduction. In the 40 years since they’ve been pushing for s/n, they’ve had the time to invent plausible health-based rationales for spaying and neutering. It’s a bunch of crock. In reality, current research reveals that spaying and neutering actually reduces the animal’s welfare and sometimes its lifespan.

Since we discovered these shocking details, we decided to put the information about killing rabbits on its own page, appropriately titled "Killing Rabbits for Food."

If you prefer to ‘harvest’ a rabbit, that’s fine too. You’ll find the information over on Killing Rabbits. And yes, it's okay to kill, or harvest a rabbit for dinner.

Many thanks to our visitors for these kind remarks...

From Tammy in Texas:
"This has been the most useful, friendly and informational website I have ever used. Thank you so very much. We found our pet rabbit Sunday night. People in the neighborhood where we found her say she was loose for about 2 weeks before she hopped up to me to be picked up. Your website helped us find out what kind of rabbit we found (Himalayan), what sex our rabbit is (female), how to house it, feed it and handle it (she was launching herself at us and smacking us with her front feet! - I am now the BIG BUNNY or a Hawk, whichever is needed!)."

From Shannon in Alabama:
"I can't thank you enough for your super informative website! I'm a mother of 4 looking for a way to add to our preparedness. I feel so much more secure and positive about my choice to start raising rabbits in our backyard. Thank you...."

From Jeanie in Florida:
"Hello, I really enjoy reading your web site."

From Marco in Spain:
"Thank you again for your advice, it really helped put our minds at ease... Keep up the good work with the website!"

From Candy in Ohio:
"Your website is wonderful!"
