Babies

by Mary L. Kelley

HI I need to know what to do with these 5 kits born this morning early. I didn't know Bama was even pregnant. We have a male named Aubie and I was informed that my son put them together one day, and now we have these little ones. I don't know if she has fed them today. One was half way eaten but the remaining 5 are fine.

I got those 5 and made them a little nesting box out of a small cooler we had , I lined it with a soft towel and took the stuffing out of an old pillow to cover them with so they could get warm.My question now is if I go and buy the babies a nesting box how is she going to get in that box to nurse them without hurting them? She is a pretty good size rabbit, this is her first litter we got her back in the spring. How big does the nesting box need to be so she won't hurt them just by getting in and out of the box?

She still isn't drinking her water which I just assumed after giving birth she would want water. Any suggestions please reply. I at one time used to raise lop eared rabbits but they kinda took care of themselves. I had them in big hutches with the kind of wire on the bottom that none of the babies could wiggle their way out of like these little ones did. And I didn't have to touch them as I had to gather these off the ground and find something to put them in to get them warm. Would appreciate any comments to help ...
